Running for a Cause: South Yorkshire Referee Jason Garrick Takes on the 2025 London Marathon

South Yorkshire-based rugby referee, Jason Garrick, is gearing up for one of the most prestigious and grueling challenges in the sporting world—the 2025 London Marathon. However, this isn't just a personal milestone for Jason; it's an opportunity to give back to the sport he loves by raising funds for the RFU Injured Players Foundation.

A Referee with a Mission

Jason Garrick is no stranger to the rugby pitch. As a dedicated referee, he’s spent countless hours ensuring the game is played fairly and safely. But in 2025, Jason is stepping into a different kind of arena—the marathon course, which will see him run 26.2 miles through the streets of London. His goal is to raise funds and awareness for the RFU Injured Players Foundation, an organization close to his heart.

Why the RFU Injured Players Foundation?

The RFU Injured Players Foundation (IPF) supports rugby players who suffer catastrophic injuries while playing the sport. Whether it’s providing medical support, rehabilitation, or helping with day-to-day needs, the IPF plays a critical role in ensuring that players who give their all on the field aren’t forgotten if the unthinkable happens. For Jason, who has seen the highs and lows of rugby from a referee’s perspective, this cause resonates deeply.

The Road to the London Marathon

Training for a marathon is no small feat. For Jason, balancing his full-time job, refereeing commitments, and training has been a test of endurance and determination. Yet, he remains committed to the cause, often clocking in early morning runs before a full day of work or officiating at a match.

How You Can Support

Jason has set up a fundraising page with the goal of raising £1,900 for the RFU Injured Players Foundation. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated and will go directly to supporting injured players and their families. If you’d like to support Jason in his marathon journey and contribute to the RFU Injured Players Foundation, you can visit his fundraising page here.

Join the Journey

As Jason continues his training, we’ll be following his progress closely. Stay tuned for updates on his journey to the 2025 London Marathon, and join us in supporting this incredible cause. Whether you’re able to donate, share his story, or cheer him on from the sidelines, your support means the world to Jason and the RFU Injured Players Foundation.

Let’s help Jason cross the finish line and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Together, we can ensure that the rugby community remains strong and supportive, both on and off the pitch.
